Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 11th November 2024

What a busy week, every day this week has had an exciting learning opportunity!

On Monday the Y5 children made us exceptionally proud with their participation in the special Remembrance assembly. They read their scripts very well and shared all the names of the soldiers that were lost from Ashton Under Hill, many of whom once came to our school, and played on the hill and in the park. It was very poignant and the lighting off the candles and placing of the crosses on the War Memorial helped to make it a lasting memory for the children.

The whole school trip to the cinema to see Kung Fu Panda 4 at Pershore Number 8 was a very exciting opportunity for the children on Tuesday. This was a great social occasion and gave the children an opportunity to attend a small theatre and have the collective experience of watching a film. It also fits in with our current learning in computing about animations. We will be using some of the features of the film in our lessons over the coming weeks.

Wednesdays trip out took us to a cross country event at Bredon School near Tewkesbury. The children enjoyed running or jogging around the very picturesque grounds of this school and many enjoyed competing against the other children to show off their running skills.

This week it is also Kindness Week and we have been completing lots of extra PSHE activities to emphasise the importance of being kind and making good choices, with a big focus on showing respectful behaviour. We also helped Mrs Stevenson to sort out all the toys that have been donated to the shoe box appeal. Look at the blog created by Jessica and Tabitha where they share what we did and what is still needed here.

Fridays fun centred around our fundraising efforts for Children In Need, we did some work to help the children understand where the money raised gets used. In our art lesson we continued to make our large scale dragon heads for the prow of a Viking boat. The children have shown great collaboration skills and have used a range of media to achieve the effect they are after.

It was lovely to see so many of you at parents evening this week celebrating your child's successes and sharing targets to help them progress over the next 2 and half terms. Thank you for your support.

Next week will be business as usual and back to lots more classroom based work - thank goodness!
