26th February : Our pets
We have started back at school with a theme of animals and, in particular this week , we have been focusing on pets. We have enjoyed many stories on Google meet and also had a lovely Google meet ‘Show and tell’ session with nearly all of the class introducing their pets or favourite cuddly .
We have written and recorded our own versions of Rod Campbell’s ‘Dear Zoo’ which have included many variations such as Dear Dinosaur Park, Dear Shop and Dear All Things Wild. We have created some amazing zoos and have set up pet shops for shopping in. We have investigated coins and even carried out our own science experiments to find out which store cupboard product was the most effective at cleaning pennies (lemon juice, barbecue sauce and washing up liquid were all contenders).
We have been fishing for numbers and letters to spell words and have crafted pets out of different shapes , fish from paper plates and ‘LFBs’ (‘Little Fluffy Birds’ from Mick Inkpen’s story ‘Rollo and Ruff’) from pompoms . We have hunted for old bird nests in the bare winter trees and have had a go at weaving and building our own nests.
The children have all been working hard with their reading and are making great progress with their letters and sounds and in maths our Reception children have been investigating the composition of the numbers 9 and 10, which has involved lots of pattern hunting and reasoning.
