Our eggs have hatched!
There has been great excitement in Acorn Class this week with the arrival of our baby chicks and, unusually, the hatching of them has been spread throughout the week with new arrivals every day. Each morning the children have been very excited to come into the class and find out what changes have happened overnight.
20 eggs has given a great opportunity for lots of maths discussion (“How many chicks could we have?” … “If nine eggs have hatched, how many are there still in the incubator?”)
The children have shown a lot of care and respect for these little lives in our classroom . They can explain why it is likely that many of the eggs will not hatch and some very interesting discussions have taken place among the children sat around the chick run .
We have really enjoyed watching as our little fluffy chicks have been getting bigger, more feathery, noisier and much more lively throughout the week . Over Easter they will move to their happy forever home on a nearby smallholding.
