Sports & PE
As governor with a special interest in sport, I spent some time with Mrs Thornton looking at sports provision in school.
I was very impressed with the hard work and dedication Mrs Thornton and all the staff put in to making such a wide variety of sports accessible to all the children. There are many activities on offer both within the school timetable and after school clubs. All children do gym, dance, athletics, outdoor adventure (orienteering and team building ) and swimming as well as Invasion games, striking and fielding and net and wall skills making maximum use of the Village playing fields and tennis courts. After school activities range from Zumba, archery, fencing, gymnastics, dance and many others as well as the major games.
Reception class and KS1 focus predominantly on fundamental skills such as large and small motor skills, ball handling and swimming. KS2 put their skills into action with more structured and competitive games such as netball, hockey, football, athletics, tennis, rounders and cricket.
There seems to always be something going on – a netball match, tennis tournament, cross country running, football festival, swimming gala to name but a few. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated staff. All credit to Mrs Thornton in facilitating an outstanding sports programme. Well done!
