Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Hawthorn wb 19th June

We've had another fantastic week of learning in Hawthorn class.
In English, the children have been creating their own story map plans based on 'How to Hide a Lion at School', and choosing powerful verbs and adjectives to include in their writing.
We've now turned our attention to 'Time' in maths. We've made great use of the mini clocks we have in our classroom to practise this important skill. Again, any time-telling activities you can do at home will really support the children's learning.
As part of our current topic, the children have had a go at making a range of sea creatures from clay, and in the process, they have developed the skills they used when making dragons' eggs recently. Next week they'll be painting them and we're looking forward to seeing the results of their creativity.
We had a fantastic morning at Ashton playing fields on Wednesday. Mrs Thornton arranged a cluster activities session for Key Stage One children and we were joined by many other local schools, including Sedgeberrow, Overbury, Eckington, Broadway and Bredon Hancocks. The children participated in a round robin of activities, all of which were led by Year 5 children from the various schools. We were very proud of all our children who tried their hardest and demonstrated super teamwork skills.
