Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow Week Beginning 17th July

Willow Class have had a busy final week and are ready for a well earned Summer break as they have been working so hard! We ended our week by producing a final piece of Art in the style of Impressionism. We took a photograph of a section along the River Thames and had to apply our understanding of this style to recreate the photo as an impressionist painting. The children did a brilliant job using the watercolours to build up short brush strokes as well as well as using different shades of colour to create a textured look.

In Maths, we've played some different games (Strike it Out (maths.org) and Totality (maths.org)) where we've been practising our strategic thinking. We had some brilliant conversations about different approaches and tactics for playing these games. In English, we've looked at two different forms of poetry - haikus and kennings. We wrote some great haikus relating to our theme of pollution and then wrote some riddle-style kenning poems, where we had to guess each other's animals. In Music, we created our own compositions using the Chrome Music Lab, experimenting with tempo and different instrumentation.

Towards the end of the week, we had time to reflect on our year in Willow Class and consider what we have achieved, what we have enjoyed, what we have learnt and also what we would like to aim for as we start Year 4 or 5. The children were really reflective on their achievements and came up with some great targets to work towards. Our final challenge was a moving marble run whereby each group had to transport their marble from one side of the playground to the other. This was really challenging as you had to work quickly to avoid any gaps in your marble run. By the end, we had some groups who managed to travel quite a distance without dropping their marble.

We have had a great year and have loved teaching Willow Class. They have worked so hard and we are really proud of all of their achievements and progress made. We hope everyone has a fantastic Summer break and look forward to hearing all about their progress next term.
