23 Holly Class W/B 25th September 2023

Another fun week in Holly Class!

This week, the children continued with their work on space. Reception have made Beegu using playdough, created the earth as Beegu sees it from space, and added to our class display all about Holly Class. Year 1 labelled different parts of the classroom to help Beegu find his way around, and wrote a list of everything Beegu needs to do throughout the school day.

In phonics this week, Reception have learnt the phonemes i, n, m and d, as well as using robot arms to blend simple words. They even had a go at writing some CVC words and did a fantastic job! Year 1 have recapped the phonemes ur, ow, oi, ear, as well as tricky words.

In maths, Reception continued their work on counting skills, showing Mr Bear how we can count a group of objects carefully by moving them one by one, or placing them in a line. They also explored how we can also count sounds and movements too! Year 1 have explored the concepts fewer, more and the same, as well as using greater than, less than and equal to symbols to construct number sentences.

In guided reading, year 1 have read an information text all about Neil Armstrong and explained what he achieved through a sentence. Reception have drawn pictures of our village to leave for Beegu and identified or written initial sounds.

In science this week, Holly Class explored the differences between animals and the features that they have. Reception created their own habitats and year 1 played sorting games and drew comparisons between a penguin and a robin.

We hope you have a great weekend everyone!
