Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow Class wb 22.01.24

This week has been our whole school Online Safety week where we have learnt about how to identify safe websites and apps now that we may be using websites for research and to play games on more often. We discussed the importance of asking a trusted adult before using a search engine or app as well as looking at the types of websites we regularly use as a class. We learnt more about our digital footprint which is a trail of information you leave behind when using apps or websites. Every time you visit a website, download an app or play a game online, a tiny bit of information about you is saved. This makes up your digital footprint. We then discussed ways to make sure we leave a positive digital footprint and created our own top tips for doing this.

This week in Science, the children learned the importance of keeping their teeth clean and healthy. We found out that sugary, acidic foods can do the most damage to the protective layer known as enamel. The class created their own persuasive leaflet, explaining  how we should look after our teeth and how to clean them properly. In music, we continued our work using the song 'Three Little Birds'. The children accompanied the piece with their recorders. We have learned how to play the notes A,B,C and G. Next week, we will learn about notation.

In Maths, we have been learning to use 'scaling' which involves using our knowledge of our times tables. The children have been solving problems where they have to scale a recipe up or divide down as well as different contexts. We used bar models to show our working out for each of these problems and were doing a fantastic job at setting out our working out.

In our English lessons, the children have been creating their own fable. We reminded ourselves of the features and the importance of a moral to the story. The class designed their own characters and created a problem and resolution  for their fable. We look forward to sharing with the class.
