2526 Hawthorn 15th May
What an exciting few weeks we have had in Hawthorn class!
In our English lessons, the children have been doing lots of writing based on a fantastic story, "Wanted, the Perfect Pet." They have written adverts, letters, instructions and are just about to use all their new found skills to write their own stories.
In Maths, we have been working on Statistics. The children have been collecting data, using tally marks to find out the most popular colour, the most popular lunch and favourite school subject. They have then made pictograms, both on paper and using software on the Ipads.
In Computing, they have completed their projects using Scratch to animate a sprite and they had great fun doing this, producing a super animation.
In Topic, we have continued finding out about the Great Fire of London and did some investigation and sorting of evidence to show us what we know about this historic event.
We were lucky enough to have a super afternoon, dodging the showers for our last trip to Forest School. We used our positional and directional language to help us get there and then the children had to make their own maps using natural items to help their friends follow the clues.
Finally, what a super day we all had last Friday, for Victorian Day. Everyone looked the part, either a well off Victorian or a very poor one! Miss Miller was a very strict teacher and the children sat in silence in rows as they were taught. They wrote with chalk on slates and had to practise number formation. (They even asked Miss Miller on Monday if she could be Victorian Miss Miller again as they enjoyed it so much!)
We had a lovely picnic on the school field with our large celebration cake which was then followed by our parade down through the village before a lovely play on the meadow. What a lovely start to our celebrations!
