2526 Acorn & Holly WC 11th May
Holly and Acorn have continued to enjoy their topic all about People Who Help us. They have been learning about, police and fire officers and postal workers. Our class role play area was transformed from a doctors’ surgery into a fire station where the children had great fun rushing off to emergencies in their fire engine.
They have now taken on the role of postal workers and are posting letters, wrapping and weighing parcels.
Both classes have been exploring the texts of 'Stuck' by Oliver Jeffers and both the classic stories of ‘Cops and Robbers’ and ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Alhberg. Highlights have been, making and flying their own kites, creating their own character to join the gang of robbers in Cops and Robbers, sending their own letters in the postal van outside of school and making gingerbread.
The children also had a wonderful day celebrating the school’s 150th birthday. The children had a taste of what life would have been like for children in Victorian times. They used slate and chalk during their Phonics lesson, thought about the differences and similarities with toys today and during the Victorian era, learnt about and sang some Victorian nursery rhymes, discovered a Victorian time capsule and spent the afternoon playing in the meadow.
