2526 Acorn and Holly 12th June
We have had an excellent start to our new topic - Where in the world are we? We will be focusing on our local area and then later in the term exploring further afield to explore different countries!
Last week we enjoyed our learning being led by the book ‘Shark in the Park’ that follows Timothy Pope and his telescope looking around his local park. We made our own telescopes in class and had a very swift visit to our local park, even experiencing some very freak weather! The Acorn children focused their learning on positional language and directions, while the Holly children were able to use a Venn diagram to compare Ashton park with Abbey park in Evesham. We all got stuck in to making maps of Ashton park!
This week we were lucky enough to visit Sandfield Farm. Emma the Farmer talked to us about the animals that she keeps and we practiced the names of baby farm animals with her. She then took us on a walk around her farm. We encountered tractors, cows, pigs, dogs and crops. We loved learning about how different areas on the farm support each other. In the afternoon we had an amazing time playing in the woods. Each path led to a new and exciting play space, some of which included slides, swings, play houses and obstacle courses.
Our story ‘The Little Red Hen’ has continued our learning around life on a farm. In school, we have been washing dirty pigs, writing about our farm visit and even baking our own bread!
We are excited to get out and about around Ashton more in the following weeks to continue our local area topic.
