Shaping Bright Futures Together

This week we have started our exciting new Geography topic all about climate zones and biomes. The children have been learning about the three main climate zones: temperate, tropical and polar, and exploring the key features of each one. Using a world map, we located different countries around the globe and identified which climate zone they belong to. The class then wrote creative postcards describing the climate, how close the country is to the equator, and the types of wildlife that might live there. We also discovered something very interesting — some countries can actually be part of more than one climate zone, which led to some good discussion!

In Maths, we have been focusing on measuring. The Year 3 children have been working on equivalent measures in millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm) and metres (m), while our Year 4 children have extended their learning to include kilometres (km). We have been using bar models to help us add and subtract different lengths and have also been challenging ourselves with a range of problem-solving questions.

In English, we have had a focus on handwriting, alongside a short unit on poetry. The children have been exploring diamante poems, which are created using a pattern of nouns, adjectives and verbs to form a diamond shape. The class enjoyed experimenting with language and creating their own poems.

Today we visited Forest School as part of our topic to explore woodland biomes. During our visit, we spent time identifying different types of trees and woodland creatures, thinking carefully about what plants and animals are typical of this biome. The children enjoyed exploring the natural environment and using their observation skills to learn more about the living things that make woodland habitats their home.
