Shaping Bright Futures Together

 Here We Are

The focus this week has been on keeping ourselves healthy.  The 'Here We Are' book takes the reader from space to planet Earth and looks at living well amongst the flora and fauna of the world.  We have concentrated on Healthy Eating and Dental Hygiene.  The children have had opportunities to experience fruits, using their senses.  This led to some really interesting vocabulary describing what they touched, smelt and tasted.

We have also been talking about the need to brush our teeth. Everyone had an opportunity to brush the giant teeth with an enormous brush.  Each child took home a new toothbrush and toothpaste with a reminder to do it twice a day.  The children also learnt how to wash their hands properly, listened to their hearts with a stethoscope and looked at some x rays (identifying which bones belonged to which part of their body).

On Tuesday morning, we watched the Year 5 children perform Jo White and the Seven.  It was a lovely opportunity to see the older children on stage, acting, with such great skill.  The class sat through the entire play, and were very animated by what they had seen.

Phonics has been about sound recognition, with Mrs Shiels playing an instrument and the children recognising the sound and recreating it.  They were so good, that we soon progressed to 2 sounds and remembering the order that they were played in.  Our children have also made the most beautiful cards for Mother's day and taken home a pot of flowers that they planted in October.
