Shaping Bright Futures Together

Katie Morag and the Colour Monster

We started our week by enjoying the Katie Morag stories and the Island of Struay.. Together, we made an island and introduced a 'Beebot' into play.  The children have really enjoyed programming it to move around the map ....... and the floor!

The Colour Monster is a wonderful story and one that helps us to verbalise our emotions. Everyday, we have discussed how we are feeling and why.  The terms that we regularly use are happy, sad, scared, tired, angry, calm, hungry and loved.  We continued the song 'If you are happy and you know it' to include all of our focus words and actions to go with them.  Every child contributed.

We have promoted wellbeing activities e.g group colouring and drawing whilst listening to music.  The children made a 'squishy', a tactile balloon for them to squeeze at times of distress, and planted a spider plant to look after and nurture.

Our maths has centred around our favourite pizza toppings, and we have made a bar chart to represent our choices. Cheese was the most popular.

We finished the week, learning a little about Chinese New Year, which will be celebrated in Half Term.  On that note, I would like to wish you all a very happy half term holiday and will look forward to seeing you for more fun in a week's time.
