Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 20.11.23

Willow Class have had a busy week starting off with our current topic in Science which is all to do with how fossils are formed. We remembered lots about fossils from our previous work on Mary Anning and then learnt about and ordered the process of fossilisation (you can find out more about this here).

We are really enjoying learning the recorder in our Music lessons. This week, we revised how to play B and A and learnt a new note, G. We talked about techniques for making a good-quality sound and have also continued to learn how to read these different notes on a stave.

In our Maths lesson on Wednesday, we carried out an open ended investigation from Nrich called number differences. We had to use the number cards 1 - 9 to create odd differences in a pattern. We started exploring through trial and error until we began to identify a pattern/rule which allowed us to work out the remainder of the solutions easily. We started to recognise the importance of spotting patterns in our Maths learning.

In Writing lessons we have been planning, drafting and creating our own page for the book 'Outdoor wonderland'. Our pages are based on the construction of Stig's new den and include a set of instructions on how to create the den. The children wrote a catchy introduction before writing a set of instructions and illustrating with images of the den. We also talked about editing our writing to make improvements.

Our Art lesson was all to do with the colour wheel and how we can mix primary colours to create secondary colours. We used watercolours to achieve our own colour wheels and will be applying this to create some washes with a Stone Age theme. We also continued with our Computing work on animation and built in different sequences into our final pieces.
