Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 10th July 2023

We have had a extraordinarily busy week this week, finishing off and continuing with our curriculum work and having fun on our leavers trip and cooking!!

We have continued to look at Balanced Arguments in our writing lessons, and have studied many model text examples, annotating the key features on them and borrowing key phrases and words from within them. We have used these words and phrases to learn how to write the for and against arguments in conjunction with the wearing of school uniform, The children came up with many reasons for and against the wearing of uniform and with guidance, wrote a balanced view of this issue. We will develop this later on in the week to create the reasons for and against the use of plastics. Our Class Reader, Which Way To Anywhere, is really hotting up and the children are groaning each time we stop reading as they want to know what happens next, the sign of a great story. The Characters now need to get to the planet Excelsiar to rescue their sister Annipek and find their father too - but how will they get there now the Which Way has closed and the Alternative Atlas has been stolen? We will continue to find out!

On Tuesday Year 5 had their 'Treat Day', and played rounders and bench ball in the morning. This was followed up with a visit to Funky Warehouse in Cheltenham where they had huge amounts of fun on all the facilities. It was really lovely to see them altogether, having fun and looking out for each other - a perfect way to spend an afternoon!

We finished our quizzes in Computing and had fun playing on each others creations, the children were very creative with their designs. In Science we set up an experiment to test the effects of different drinks on our teeth. We put an egg in to 5 different drinks and we'll observe them over the next few days. On Thursday we joined with Willow Class to make and bake our mini quiches.

We had 2 special assemblies, our last chance to appear in an Open The Book assembly so lots of children took part in the crowd scene. We also had a treat as Mr Clements gave us a concert with his guitar students and we learned how they had progressed their skills and thoroughly enjoyed their performances. To finish off the week we analysed the plastic waste surveys that we completed as homework and did some more research into the use of plastics around the world, and then focussed on how, as a school, we can reduce our plastic waste. We will let you know what we came up with.
