Thursday 2 July 2026 2526 Willow wb 29.06.26 This week, Willow Class welcomed a visitor from Severn Trent Water. We worked in teams to explore the many uses of water and discover how much water can be wasted through everyday activities. Each team took on the role of a different family living on Water Street. Using containers, we calculated how much water our families used each day and learned about ways to reduce waste. We also found out how our water is cleaned. Water is collected from rivers, reservoirs and groundwater sources before being sent to a water treatment plant to be cleaned. We learned that it takes around three hours for the water to be treated and made safe to drink. We also discovered what happens to wastewater and sewage. This is sent to a different treatment plant, where the cleaning process takes much longer—around 24 hours—before it can be safely returned to the environment. We had a fantastic time learning about the journey of water and the importance of using it wisely.

Friday 12 June 2026 2526 Willow wb 08.06.26 Willow Class have been exploring rivers in more depth over the past two weeks. We began by studying photographs of the River Severn from its source to its mouth, identifying how the river changes along its journey. We described differences in the river bed, the speed of the water, the surrounding landscape and land use, helping us to recognise the key features of the upper, middle and lower courses of a river. We then applied our learning by labelling and annotating a river diagram with descriptions of each stage. This week, we looked more closely at the different ways rivers are used, from leisure and tourism to industry and transport. To consolidate our understanding, we completed a river journey puzzle, which helped us identify how the uses of a river change along its course.

Friday 15 May 2026 2526 Willow wb 11.05.26 Willow class thoroughly enjoyed their Victorian Day last week and we were so impressed with everyone's efforts to dress up and get into character. In class, we experienced some unusual lessons, including an object lesson all about a wooden spoon and observational drawing, which were both typical activities from the Victorian era. In addition, we did a moral story lesson and had a go at handwriting with a "quill". The children embraced the experience wonderfully and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day.

Friday 6 March 2026 2526 Willow wb 02nd March This week we have started our exciting new Geography topic all about climate zones and biomes. The children have been learning about the three main climate zones: temperate, tropical and polar, and exploring the key features of each one. Using a world map, we located different countries around the globe and identified which climate zone they belong to. The class then wrote creative postcards describing the climate, how close the country is to the equator, and the types of wildlife that might live there. We also discovered something very interesting — some countries can actually be part of more than one climate zone, which led to some good discussion!
