We have been stepping back in time to the Bronze Age as we investigated the fascinating mystery of the Amesbury Archer! We became history detectives, using sources and images of the objects that were discovered buried alongside him. We carefully examined each item and thought about what it was, what it was made from, what it might have been used for and what it could tell us about the man himself. As we pieced together the clues, we discovered that the Amesbury Archer was buried with a fascinating collection of objects, including clay pots, boar tusks, wrist guards and a cushion stone. Each discovery helped us to build a better picture of who he may have been and what life was like during the Bronze Age. Finally, we used all of our findings to write a historical report about the Amesbury Archer, explaining what the evidence tells us about this mysterious man from the past.
In Maths, we have been focusing on addition and have begun using column addition with exchange. We have been learning how important it is to set out our calculations carefully, making sure that each digit is written under the correct place value heading. We have also been practising adding accurately and checking our calculations.
In Writing, we have been learning how to take a seed idea and grow it into a detailed piece of writing. We have developed our ideas by using expanded noun phrases, incorporating the different senses and thinking carefully about how our characters might react to events. We have been working hard to add detail and description to bring our writing to life! This week we started our new text, Interview with a Tiger and are beginning to explore the features of interviews.
Last week we headed outdoors for a Forest School adventure and stepped back in time to explore what life may have been like during the Stone Age! We worked together to collect a range of natural resources that we could use to create our own paints. We also challenged ourselves to build shelters using basic equipment, thinking carefully about how Stone Age people may have created places to keep themselves safe and protected from the elements.
