Shaping Bright Futures Together

2627 Holly wc 14th September

It’s been a great start to the academic year in Holly class. The children have all settled into their environment brilliantly. The children are getting to know the routines and flow of the classroom and, it is great to see them coming in smiling and engaging in all that is on offer each day.
During their first week, to kick start their topic ‘Marvellous Me’, the children have been enjoying the text ‘Super Duper You’. They have been using their super senses to become aware of what is around them. They have been on a listening walk, played with herby playdough, made texture collages, made a class artwork to music using smelly pens and had fun tasting different foods.

Last week, the children enjoyed the story 'The Colour Monster' and spent lots of time talking about emotions and feelings and what these mean. The children talked about which colours might go with different emotions and had a go at making their own colour monsters.

This week, we have been looking at the text ‘Ruby’s Worry’. The children shared ideas about what can help them when they feel worried. We have also enjoyed getting to know each other more; talking about our families and what special things we enjoy.

Our daily morning Little Wandle Phonics sessions have also started this week. The children are enjoying thinking about the sound (phoneme) of the day, playing games such as ‘What’s in the box?’ and have been practising the letter formation for the letters (graphemes): ‘s’, ‘a’, ‘t’ and ‘p’.

Do have a look through the photos here to see some of the learning and playing that has been going on in Holly class over these last couple of weeks.
