Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

2627 Holly wc 12th October

This month, children have been exploring the stories Owl Babies and Lost and Found.

Children have been focusing on make ups of families from the Owl Babies story on how, although all families look different, families love one another.

We have enjoyed retelling the owl babies story and comparing the family make up to the gruffalos child from our previous book. We have also enjoyed crafting our own owls using cotton wool and other resources.

With inspiration from the story Lost and Found, about a lost penguin who makes friends with a little boy, we learnt about how we go to school in Ashton but that the world is wider. We used Google Earth to take a look at where Ashton is in comparison to the South Pole! It is so far away!

In maths we have been sorting and matching objects to images and then grouping them based on a shared theme including ordering objects by size. We have had number fun looking at numbers 1,2, 3!

In phonics, we have been busy learning lots of new graphemes such as g, o, c, k, e, u r and many more. We have had fun playing I spy games, and hearing initial sounds in words. We have also been practicing orally blending such as h-a-t, b-e-d, b-u-s.

We enjoyed a trip to the park and played on the equipment, took part in the whole school Harvest celebrations and lots of Forest School fun! Photos for Parents here
