This week, Willow Class welcomed a visitor from Severn Trent Water. We worked in teams to explore the many uses of water and discover how much water can be wasted through everyday activities. Each team took on the role of a different family living on Water Street. Using containers, we calculated how much water our families used each day and learned about ways to reduce waste. We also found out how our water is cleaned. Water is collected from rivers, reservoirs and groundwater sources before being sent to a water treatment plant to be cleaned. We learned that it takes around three hours for the water to be treated and made safe to drink. We also discovered what happens to wastewater and sewage. This is sent to a different treatment plant, where the cleaning process takes much longer—around 24 hours—before it can be safely returned to the environment. We had a fantastic time learning about the journey of water and the importance of using it wisely.
In our maths lessons this week, we have been learning all about money. We have practised finding the total of different amounts and recording values in pence, pounds and decimal notation. We have also been comparing and ordering different amounts of money, helping us to become more confident when working with numbers in real-life situations.
In writing, we have focused on using commas accurately. We revised how to use commas after fronted adverbials, to separate items in a list and to mark clauses within a sentence. We have worked hard to apply these skills in our own writing to make it clear, organised and effective.
Sports Day was a great success, and the children demonstrated fantastic teamwork, determination and sportsmanship throughout the day. After enjoying a fun-filled morning of round-robin activities, KS2 took part in a range of exciting field events, including the shot put, javelin and long jump. It was wonderful to see the children challenging themselves to improve on their personal best performances while also aiming to break existing school records. The enthusiasm and encouragement shown by everyone made the day a memorable one, and we are incredibly proud of the positive attitudes displayed by everyone involved.
