Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn week 19th February

It's been an exciting week back for Hawthorn children culminating in lots of adventures for both our Year 1s and Year 2s. We'll be sharing photos from the Year 2 residential early next week but by all accounts, they've been having a fantastic time! The Year 1s have also thoroughly enjoyed spending a couple of days with Holly class. Take a look at their news here.
Earlier in the week, we kicked off our new topic which is called, 'Protect our Planet'. This fits perfectly with our whole school theme of, 'Looking after our world'. We began by thinking about recycling and the children created posters to highlight how important it is.
We've also started a new topic in computing, in which the children will be learning about data and information. We began by identifying groups of items and discussing the importance of labelling and sorting them correctly.
In maths, Year 1s are coming to the end of the their work on addition and subtraction within 20, while Year 2s have been exploring the 2 times table and related division facts.

We've also nearly finished our African clay masks and hope to share some photos of them with you next week.

Phew, what a busy time we've had! After all this activity, we hope you all have a calm and restful weekend.
More photos to follow and look out for an update about Malvern !
