Shaping Bright Futures Together

2324 Holly Class week beginning 8th April

It has been lovely to be back together in Holly class after the Easter break! The children enjoyed sharing their news as part of an independent writing task in the classroom and during show and tell time.

We have had a very exciting delivery this week and now have an incubator with 15 eggs in. We are really hoping that in 21 days we might start to have some chicks hatch in our classroom. The children were all really careful as we marked the eggs and placed them inside the incubator. They enjoyed learning all about how we must take care of them by keeping the incubator the right temperature and humidity and also by checking the eggs are turning slowly. We have a calendar up to keep track of the days and will keep you up to date on their progress!

In our literacy lessons this week we have been reading and performing poems. The children have learnt that poems come in many different forms, some are nursery rhymes or songs and others we read and say aloud. We have learnt a poem as a class called 'Boing! Boing!' and the children performed it great enthusiasm!

In our maths lessons this week, the Reception children have been using number blocks to learn about odd and even numbers. The even number blocks have 'even tops' which helped us to spot and sort them. The Year 1 children have been learning about how to measure the length of objects. They began by using cubes to measure objects, before starting to use rulers and learning about the different units of measurement such as centimetres and metres.

This week, we have also been working on finishing our D&T project from last half term. Following on from the Year 1 science work on plants, the children have been using junk and recycling to create models of sunflowers. Everyone's looks wonderfully different and they have been carefully put together. The Year 1 children then went on to evaluate their model and decide what they would do differently if they were to do it again.

For our forest school session this week we walked up to the farm to see the lambs. Thank you so much to Liz and Jamie, both for allowing us to look after the eggs from their chickens in our incubator and having us up at the farm. A lovely time was had by all!
