Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Acorn and Holly week beginning 2nd March

The children have had a brilliant couple of weeks back at school and we have been enjoying making the most of the spring sunshine! At forest school last week we spent lots of time spotting the signs of spring around us, learning the names of some of the flowers that were popping up around the orchard and completing a spring treasure hunt. This has continued this week as we’ve been exploring daffodils in the studio area of our classroom; learning the names of different parts of the flower, making careful observations and turning these into some super artwork.

This week, after reading a story about a little blue creature called a Bog Baby, we found one of our very own in the school grounds on Wednesday! The children have been looking after it, creating habitats and trying to find out more about it. We have filled out questionnaires answering questions about what it looks like, the noises it makes and what it likes to eat and, along with some careful sketches we will send them to the special address in London at the back of the book (SOBB – Save Our Bog Babies!).

Last week, we enjoyed finding out about the Lunar New Year. Our learning was led by a lovely picture book called Dim Sum Palace and the children were really interested in finding out about the different traditions and ways in which the Year of the Horse was being celebrated around the world.

We had a fabulous World Book Day yesterday, the children loved coming to school in their costumes and sharing their characters, words and favourite books with each other. The children all made Bog Baby book crowns using their knowledge from the story and were very proud to share these with the older children in assembly today.
