Shaping Bright Futures Together

Reception and Year 1 find a Bog Baby!

What an adventure the Reception and Year 1 children have had over the last two days! When the children arrived at school on Thursday morning we found a curious package of a bottle of blue water with a note attached, the note just said 'Please bring cake crumbs...'. We also found a book called Bog Baby and after we had read it the children discovered that Bog Baby likes cake crumbs and maybe that is who had left the package. We thought we had better spring into action and make some cakes! The children were also very busy making posters with Bog Baby on to put up around school in case anyone could give us any more information.

After the cakes were made and we had all eaten a special picnic lunch we were ready to go looking for Bog Baby. Binoculars in hand and with our line leaders carrying a cake, we set off through the village looking for clues. Just outside school we spotted some blue string and thought we should follow it as it might lead us somewhere. Sure enough, as we walked through the village there was more blue string and it was definitely leading us somewhere. The children took it in turns to hold the cake and spot the string until we arrived at another (quite soggy) note....it said we had to find 7 bags and collect them. Bags collected, we carried on following the trail of Bog Baby until, through the rain the children spotted some bright blue ribbon on a fallen tree. When we arrived there was a Bog Baby peeping out looking very sad and lost! We thought we had better take care of him and brought him back to school along with some buckets and plant pots that we also found by the back school gates.

Back at school, after everyone was warm and dry again it was time to get ready for our tea party! We made party hats, played some party games, made pizzas and decorated our cupcakes to make them look like Bog Baby. A lovely time was had by all! After the children had eaten it was time to put on their pyjamas and follow a special bedtime story map that look them around the school to hear different stories before going home.

On Friday we thought it was time to investigate what was in the bags we had found and look at the second note Bog Baby had left. He asked us to make him a home and the children found that in each of the bags there was some bark, stones and some shells. The children made some amazing homes for Bog Baby using these things and he really enjoyed trying them all out! We rewarded ourselves with some hot chocolate at snack time. We finished the week by creating some sketches of our Bog Baby and filling out a form for S.O.B.B (Save Our Bog Baby) that tells them all about this very rare creature we have found!
