Shaping Bright Futures Together

Big Fish Little Fish

This week we have been working on Harvest Festival. We discussed the meaning of harvest and on Monday, we walked to Mrs Archer's garden in order to 'harvest' apples.  We collected lots of different sized apples and even saw the ducks.  Thank you Mrs Archer for letting us visit.
In the afternoon, we made apple sauce and on Tuesday, we made apple crumble.  On Wednesday, Mrs Shiels cut the apples in two and we printed with them (and then our hands and arms)!  We also used the apples to count with and to discuss comparative sizes: big, small, medium etc.
Our harvest song this year has been chosen by the children and they have sang the traditional song Baa Baa Black Sheep and their own variation of Baa Baa Rainbow Sheep.  We recorded this to be shown in the Harvest Festival on Friday.
We have also enjoyed our focus book this week, Big Fish Little Fish, and have been practising our fishing skills in our role play area.  We have been solving problems about how we could cross a river, and the children have found various ways to build a bridge. We finished the week with another outdoor walk, to see what treasures nature has to offer.
