Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Hawthorn wb 17th July

We have made it to the summer holidays, but we have still been very busy this week!

In maths, the year 2 children have been introduced to formal methods of calculation and have tried column subtraction.  Meanwhile, the year 1 children have been ordering numbers to 100.

In English, the children have written their own seaside poems.  We were really impressed with their ideas and how beautifully they were presented.

As part of the Science and Design Technology curriculum we looked at seasonal fruits and vegetables.  We discussed how eating seasonally is better value for money, tastes better and also is good for the environment.  We then did some food preparation and used seasonal fruits to make a salsa and also to make our own fruit kebabs.  The children also learnt about knife skills and leaned how to cut fruit safely using the claw hold and the bridge hold. We then tasted our foods and discussed which things we liked and didn't like.

As it was the last week of term, we had a little picnic celebration on Wednesday afternoon when we were all in.  Great fun was had by all.

Finally, we would like to wish you all a very happy summer break and thank you for your support this year.
