Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 4th December 2023

Oak class have been busy evaluating the historical evidence needed to write an explanation text entitled, What Was Stonehenge Built For? There are many different theories and the children had to select the one which, they felt, were the most interesting. In Maths Year 5 have been leaning all about mixed numbers and improper fractions and have become experts in converting between the two types of fractions. Towards the end of the week we also worked on comparing and ordering fractions both below and greater than 1. The children have been really focussed on this learning and I am very proud of the effort they have put into this work. Meanwhile, Year 4 have been consolidating their understanding of addition and subtraction, remembering the skills they learnt earlier in the term and applying them.

We have a very exciting DT project in the pipeline for next week and spent time planning it this week. The children are going to create a model of a typical Neolithic settlement using a variety of different materials. They are very excited to get started next week and were full of wonderful ideas as to what to include in their plans.

Our RE topic (What does it mean for Christians to believe that God is loving and holy?) is coming to a close and we have been summarising all the things we have been discussing over the past few weeks. The children have been looking at descriptions of God from the Bible, studying the designs of churches and cathedrals, and reading the lyrics of different religious songs to name a few. They produced a summary of their learning expressing their own thoughts and ideas comparing them to those of Christians.

In Science we spent a lesson studying soil! How it's made, the different types of soil and the characteristics of these variations. We learnt that the types of bedrock the soil was on made a huge difference to the kind of soil it produces.

One of our recent homework's was to write about why we are 'Proud To Be Me'. The responses to this were sooooooo amazing that I have created a display adding to it all the photos, you kindly sent in, of the children doing something they love. It is a very heart warming display, the children love looking at it and makes me smile every time I walk into the classroom :)
