Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow Class wb 11.12.23

This week in Willow Class, we have been designing, constructing and creating models of a Neolithic village as our Design Technology project. First, we had to use our knowledge of how Stone Age homes developed over time to design our on village which fulfilled the design brief before using modroc to create the structures of our homes. We then joined up with Oak class to add paint and some natural materials to make our villages appear more realistic and reflect life during this period in prehistory. The children did an amazing job with both their designs and models so that included the criteria and we hope you enjoy looking through the photos of the completed villages.

In Writing lessons we have been building up to writing our own version of a Quest story using the structure from Arthur and the Golden rope. We looked closely at our opening paragraphs and the importance of telling the reader lots of information about the main character so they feel as if they know them. In addition to the opener, we also focused on how our choices of verbs can convey action effectively. The final quests were very exciting to read and had a real sense of adventure. In our Maths lessons we have been completing our end of term quizzes to check which key skills and facts we have retained from this term's learning. Everyone showed real determination to do their very best and they concentrated so well.

Now that we have come to the end of our Topic on the Stone Age, we completed a task to showcase what we have learnt about this time. The children had a selection of images which they had to group together and make connections between. For example, some chose to group the animals with the berries as these were both sources of food for hunter gatherers. There was lots of discussion and challenging of one another's ideas which was great to see. We were really impressed with the knowledge the children have retained.
