Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow wb 05.02.24

This week we have finished our science topic about teeth and digestion. We used an egg and a cup of vinegar to show how acidic drinks can affect the enamel on our teeth and that brushing with a fluoride toothpaste can protect this layer. We observed how the shell of the egg dissolved due to the acidity of the vinegar. We found out that this has become a problem for animals who lay eggs by oceans and seas. Due to global warming, seas and oceans are becoming more acidic and this can affect the shell in the wild. We also completed our topic with an end of unit quiz to show what we have learned this term. Our next topic will be all about light.

In Maths, the children have been learning how to convert lengths into metres and centimetres to help order and compare them. We measured our partners height and foot length and converted them into centimetres and millimetres. We used our knowledge to add and subtract various lengths. We have been practising applying column subtraction in problem solving contexts too.

In French we have been putting all of our new knowledge together to write some sentences which describe a monster. We were able to use numbers, colours and parts of the body. Here are some of our sentences “Mon monster a trois yeux oranges. “ Georgina “ Mon monster a deux têtes marron.” Annabelle “Mon monster a quatre jambes bleues” Hugo. We learnt that the colour in French comes after the noun unlike in English. We have also learnt a very catchy song to help us to remember the days of the week in French. Bravo!

As part of Mental Health week, the children have discussed aspects of their life that make them feel proud. We were also joined by the different colour monsters who appeared around the classroom. We spoke about the various colours and the emotions they represent and when we might feel this way. We have completed various activities linked with the theme 'our voice matters' and recorded our proud moments both in school and out. Finally, we looked at the book 'Have you filled your bucket today' and talked about how we can use our voices to help fill our own and others' buckets with positive thoughts.
