25 Holly Class Week beginning 28th April
It has been a super first week of the Summer term in Holly Class, we have very much enjoyed the sunny weather and made every opportunity to take our learning outside. Our topic this half term is called 'Towers and Turrets', the children have very much enjoyed investigating all things castles this week. The children have all helped to start building a role play castle in our classroom so that they can bring to life all of the lovely stories we will read. On Friday we started to learn about the key features of a castle and added these to some castle artwork.
'The Very Last Castle' is the book that had led much of our learning this week. At Drawing Club, the children enjoyed getting to know Ibb, the main character as well as drawing and writing about a castle from their own imagination. We finished the week by imagining we had moved into the castle ourselves and wrote some very exciting invitations! The Year 1 children have been focussing on using capital letters for names and places as well as checking their work for accurate punctuation whilst the Reception children continue to build on their sentence writing skills.
In maths this week the Year 1 children have started a unit of work on time. They have been securing their knowledge of the days of the week and months of the year, as well as understanding the difference between hours, minutes and seconds. The Reception children have been working on repeating patterns and have used their new skills to make pattern bricks for our role play castle as well as showing what they can do with some beautiful nature patterns.
Thursday was a particularly exciting morning for our Y1 children as they went with all of the children in Hawthorn class for their first swimming lesson. Then, in the afternoon, everyone took part in a PE lesson on the balance bikes before enjoying an ice lolly in the sunshine to celebrate Miss Player, our student teacher's, birthday.
Have a lovely sunny weekend everyone!
