Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn wb 11th October 2021

This week, we’ve continued our work on Little Red Riding Hood by looking at different types of sentences – statements, commands, questions and exclamations. We’re now starting the build-up to writing our own stories next week, and we’re really looking forward to finding out about the children’s ideas.

In maths, we’ve finished our work on Place Value and made a start on addition and subtraction. You can help with this at home by asking your child to practice their skills using everyday items as resources.

Earlier this week, Mrs Clayton delivered a masterclass in sketching, and we chose fruit and vegetables grown locally to be the subject of our endeavours. The children drew lines in different thicknesses and used a variety of pencil grades when creating their masterpieces. They also learnt techniques such as cross-hatching and scumbling. A few examples of their work are shown here.

And finally, in Science we have been looking at animal groups and comparing features of similar animals, just like in our collage.
