Holly Class - celebrating our differences with odd socks!

All week in Holly class we have been celebrating things that make us different and unique as part of anti bullying week. We started the week wearing our odd socks to remind us of how different we all are and what a wonderful thing this is! I set the children a challenge to collect links for a kindness chain this week, each time we spot someone being kind they can earn a link for the chain and we are working to see how long we can make it. All week we have been doing lots of different activities to help us learn about the importance of being kind to each other, understand some of the different emotions we might feel and what we can do if we are worried about anything. We have made helping hands of people we could talk too, role played different emotions and thought of times when we had felt these, designed our own odd socks, sorted images into the categories of 'kind' and 'unkind' and shared the story 'Something Else' which allowed to to talk about how the character was feeling and what we might have done differently. As you can see, we have been very busy!!

Amongst all of this kindness, we have also enjoyed reading lots of poems in our English lessons and learning to say them aloud with actions we have created. We very much enjoyed performing the poem 'Boing! Boing!' to anyone to happened to come past our classroom today! Year 1 have also been writing their own poems inspired by this one but using the characters from our book this week, Owl Babies. In Maths, we have all been learning about addition. Year 1 have been using part part whole models and bar models to write fact families and the Reception children have been looking at ways of making 5 through through their play with the numicon and pegs.

On Friday afternoon, the Reception children had a lovely time at forest school exploring the gorgeous autumn leaves whilst Year 1 and Mrs Holdsworth joined together with Hawthorn class to start working on the Christmas Nativity. We have all started to learn some songs and can't wait for more rehearsals next week!
