Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Week Beginning 26th May 2024

In our English lessons this week have finished our Performance poetry topic by writing up our nonsense poems inspired by Jabberwocky. The children used a line guide on plain paper to carefully create a beautifully presented piece of work for display; complete with illustrations of all the wonderful creatures and settings. The finale to this topic was the  Poetry Plate heats. The children did a fabulous job of performing poems they had written themselves on a wide range of topics from tractors to Gladiators! It was extremely difficult to choose who to vote for and the vote results were very close. We were very proud of the children who represented Oak Class in the finals on Friday and we were rooting for them all to win!! It was wonderful to have a winner in our class - MASSIVE congratulations Rory on your win and to Maisie a runner up!! We have also started our new text, the classic story by William Shakespeare Midsummers Nights Dream. We are in the early stages of familiarising ourselves with the story and have used picture clues and recorded our predictions on a fabulous new app on our iPads - it was great fun.

We have continued to find out how the Romans expanded their empire by invading England and what the residents of our country thought about this. The children became spy's and watched a Roman soldier, called Marcus, from afar to decide if he was a threat or not. They examined his appearance, his weapons and his armour, they had to record all of these details to feed back to their communities to decide what to do next. They even managed to capture him for a short period of time in order to question him about what he was doing in England. To finish the task they decided if the soldiers were a threat or not, with an overwhelming majority stating they were a big threat!

Friday afternoon was spent at forest school. We had a great time learning about insects life cycles and trying to spot and identify any insects and other invertebrates whilst we were playing. As ever the children had a wonderful time being free range and it was great to see them making up their own games and having mini adventures in nature. The weather was kind to us too, thank goodness, it was a smashing way to end another busy week.
