Shaping Bright Futures Together

Willow WB- 03.10.2022

This week we have been working hard to practise our Harvest Festival performance where we explained the Egyptian Harvest and performed a harvest song with actions. We hope you were able to join us!

As part of our Science work, the children have been learning all about teeth. We have learned the names of the various teeth and how the shape and position help us to eat different foods. We have learned where they are located in our mouth and all about their function. Next week we will plan an experiment to show how different drinks can affect the enamel on our teeth.

In art lessons, we have finished our sarcophagus design. We looked at various Egyptian patterns and how line and pattern can be used effectively in art. Take a look at some of the photos to see what we created.

In maths, we have been learning methods to help us cross 10 and 100 when adding and subtracting. This will help us next week when we start using column addition and subtraction to calculate larger numbers. In English, we have been learning about dialogue. The children used speech marks or inverted commas to show when a character is speaking. We looked at different synonyms for the word 'said' to improve and vary our writing. Later in the week, we were invited to the Pharaoh's grand ball where we acted out our responses to the invite and used these to write conversations applying our knowledge of inverted commas and the rules of speech.

For out Topic, we took on the role of archaeologists to find out what artefacts from inside the tombs told us about life in Ancient Egypt. We worked in small groups to identify where the tomb was located in the desert, and we discovered it was between Thebes and Esna. We then equipped ourselves with blindfolds and maps and were guided into the tomb by a member of our team. When inside the tomb, we had to piece together the picture of the artefact and study the image closely to look for clues as to what it was trying to tell us. We found out that it was the tomb of Nebamun who is shown hunting in a boat with his family along the banks of the River Nile. The children were great at looking closely for clues.
