Ashton Under Hill First School

Shaping Bright Futures Together

Hawthorn Wb 26th February

We were back to our normal routines in Hawthorn class this week.
We've started a new book in English which has gone down very well with the children - Usborne's 'Look Inside Space'. We've been focusing on the International Space Station and  developed our understanding by watching some clips of Tim Peake's exciting journey to the ISS on the Soyuz spacecraft and he also presented a virtual tour of the Space Station.
In maths, Year 1s are excited to have begun working on numbers up to 50 while Years 2s have continued their work on multiplication and division, specifically the 10 times table!
In Computing, the children learned more about counting and grouping objects, while in Topic, Mr Leahy shared a very informative book called, The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle. The children went on to sort a wide range of items, deciding whether they should be reused, recycled or sent to landfill.
In Science we continued learning about plants and looked at a range of different plants.  We then played a memory pairs game seeing if we could find and pair different wild and garden plants.
Finally, have a look at our clay mask photographs!  We were very proud of the work that the children did with super modelling and painting,
