Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class week beginning 29th January

What a busy week we've had in Holly class!

Thank you so much to everyone to came to the mastering number workshops, it was so lovely to have parents in school working with their children. In maths this week, the Reception children have been working in the composition of the numbers 6, 7 and 8. They have played lots of games to make them up in different ways. The Year 1 children have started their addition and subtraction unit of work and have been concentrating on number bonds to 20.

We loved seeing the children's favourite places and listening to them talk about them on Thursday. Thank you so much for sending them in. We have made a big class display with them all on the world map and used this as part of the Year 1 Geography learning to talk about the hot and cold places in the world.

This week we have started reading and learning about Katie Morag. We also watched an island tour of the Isle of Struay and used this to learn about the compass directions. On Friday afternoon we had a brilliant adventure and rowed out to the Isle of Struay (on the playground!) to play a game practising our compass directions!

We had a very exciting morning on Friday as Mrs Brown brought us some post that had been delivered. We had a letter from Katie Morag herself asking for our help. She has found a lost penguin and asked us to write some stories so that she had some ideas about how to help it get home. The children had some amazing ideas and have planned the stories that we will write next week. I can't wait to read them and I'm sure Katie can't wait either!
