Holly Class week beginning 2nd June
It has been a week of all things castles and dragons in Holly Class as we have finished off our Towers and Turrets topic work. Today we have had a castle day and the children have been historians all day finding out about what makes a castle so strong, what life was like for people living in a Medieval castle and they have been busy getting muddled up castles back in order to show them from oldest to newest. The children have particularly enjoyed learning about knights and jousting and we found some horse and knights in our small world set to act it out with!
In Drawing Club this week our story has been 'Tell Me a Dragon' by Jackie Morris. It is a beautifully illustrated book that describes dragons and the children have been working on their own description. The Year 1 children have been particularly focussing on including adjectives and sequencing sentences correctly. Once the children had drawn and labelled their dragons, they were brought to live into little animations that they could then use to write their descriptions. Later in the week we then used our art lesson to learn about how to use watercolour paints and each child also painted a version of their dragon. Everyone was rightfully very proud of their dragon work.
In maths this week the Reception children have been working on their number bonds to 5 and recalling these automatically and fluently. We will continue to practise this with lots of games and chanting! The Year 1 children have finished off their place value work with numbers to 100, they have worked on comparing and and ordering numbers as well as recapping how to partition them using part part whole models.
The children had a super forest school session on Tuesday working in groups and making habitats for animals.
