Shaping Bright Futures Together

Holly Class week beginning 12th May

As always, it has been a busy week in Holly Class. We have been reading George and the Dragon this week to lead our learning and the children have enjoyed creating missing posters for the dragon in Drawing Club as well as working on a piece of descriptive writing about the dragon. The Reception children have been working hard on their sentence structure and learning how to start sequencing sentences whilst the Year 1 children have been thinking about how to make their writing more exciting by using adjectives.

In our History work this week we have been learning about why castles were built and the people who lived and worked in castles in the past. The children all took turns to find out about the lives of the servants, Kings and Queens, knights and villagers and then came together for a banquet that they had worked together to create!

In maths this week the Reception children have continued to work on their numbers up to and beyond 20. They have played lots of games to practise building, making and recognising these numbers. The Year 1 children have been working on numbers up to 100 this week, they have worked practically to make and partition these numbers as well as recognise and write them.

In our Music lessons we have been exploring the meaning of pitch and we played a game with the flipper flappers to practising listening for the high notes and low notes in a piece of music. We also learnt to sing a song about the low tuba and the high cornet as well as learning a little bit about the instruments we were singing about. This week we also continued to think about printmaking in our Art lessons and the children learnt about how all sorts of different things can be used to create prints, we found some objects in nature to use as well as some children starting to make their own stamp using carboard. The children created some beautiful pieces of work.

On Thursday, we took part in a Maypole workshop, it was great fun, have a look at the photos to see everyone in action!
