Shaping Bright Futures Together

2526 Hawthorn 23rd January

It was lovely to see the children again after the Christmas break and we have been busy, busy busy with our learning.

In English, the children became researchers and found out about Jellyfish and Dolphins before writing their own information text about these fascinating animals.  We then moved on to our new book, Fatou, fetch the water!  A story about a girl in The Gambia who has to fetch the water for her Mother but keeps being interrupted.

In Maths the Y2s have been working hard on addition and subtraction and the Y1s have been looking at place value and the numbers from 11 to 20.

In Topic, we have started our new subject, Oceans.  Please have a look at the fact sheet on our class page if you have not already done so,  We also linked our Art lesson to this and produced our own version of "The Great Wave" by Hokusai using pastels.

In Science, we are learning about Plants and have done some super observations on very different plants and learnt about the jobs of the different parts of a plant.

In RE we are looking a Judaism and the children really enjoyed looking at lots of Jewish artefacts and thinking about what they symbolised or what they were used for.

Finally, we were lucky enough to go to Forest School this Friday and had a super time learning about direction.  We did an orienteering course and found clues to spell a word using our compasses to help us.  Have a look at the photos to see us all in action!
