Acorn 25 George And The Dragon
Our week has been dominated by an egg that has appeared in the classroom. We had no idea where it came from, so together we compiled a letter asking who it belonged to, what it may be and how we should look after it.
The reply came with a burnt hole in the middle, which the mummy later admitted had occurred when she had accidentally sneezed! This led to a weeklong correspondence between the egg’s mother and the Class.
By Thursday, the egg had grown and changed colour and we had confirmation that the egg would hatch into a little dragon (although thankfully, little dragons don’t breath fire)! The vocabulary and joined up thinking that has come from this experience has been fantastic.
Coincidentally, our book ‘George And The Dragon’ tells a story of a fierce dragon who is scared of mice, and a little mouse called George who lives in the castle wall and protects it. The children have really enjoyed helping us to retell the story. In phonics, we have been learning to identify rhyme and in maths we have been practising and using finger counting. The song ‘5 Little Dragons’ has been very popular, with lots of the children singing it word perfectly.
On Thursday, Acorn Class joined the Reception Class to build 2 castles out of our outdoor equipment. Each castle needed to defend itself from the attack of its enemy. We had great fun, trying to hit each other’s castles with soft balls. We concluded, that the Normans were very wise to build their castles out of stone!
