Holly Class - The Queen's Hat

What a wonderful week we have had, all leading up to celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee!

The story that led much of our learning this week is 'The Queen's Hat', it took us on an adventure all around London following the Queen chasing her hat that had blown away. We had a mysterious hat arrive in our classroom bringing notes and information about the Queen, on one of the days this week we even found some Union Jack flags tucked inside it! As you will see from our pictures we have been very busy making bunting, designing and making hats and crowns, and building some important London landmarks (including a spectacular Buckingham Palace in our outdoor area).

As a class we have been learning about the 00's as it is one of the decades during the Queen's reign. We really enjoyed finding out about some of the TV programmes children watched 20 years ago and saw some clips of The Tweenies, 64 Zoo Lane and Dora the Explorer. We all chatted about which we enjoyed watching and why and then wrote up our thoughts along with some lovely pictures. These are being displayed in our windows for the Jubilee celebrations, so do pop by and see them!

This week we have also finished off our history project by setting up an old toy museum in the classroom, re-planted our peas so that they can continue growing well and continued to work hard in our phonics and maths lessons.

The highlight of our week has to be Friday's Jubilee celebrations! We loved showing off our banner as we paraded through the village and then had a fabulous street party and Jubilee lunch. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and see us sing and 'Cha Cha Slide' our way through assembly at the end of the day and to those who helped their children create decorated plant pots, they are all absolutely gorgeous!

Have a wonderful half term holiday everyone.
