Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Class Spring Term 2 Week 6

We have had a week developing our creative brain.

It all began with the Poetry Plate heats on Monday. Everyone in Oak performed the poem they had either written or found - the vast majority performed a poem they had written themselves. It was a real treat to hear all the variety of performances and it was an extremely close run competition, the voting was very competitive. Our three winners had all written their own poems and had memorised them too even adding in some actions. They represented the class brilliantly in the finals on Wednesday and two of the overall winners were from Oak Class - we were all very proud. The other classes poems were equally brilliant and there were some very memorable performances, especially from the Key Stage  1 children who narrowly missed out on a prize I'm sure! I wouldn't have wanted to choose between them all - they were all winners !!

Also on Wednesday, we created some art work based on our class reader - The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. We recreated the scene where the giant space-bat-angel-lizard arrives on Earth, a very exciting moment in the story. The children recreated this scene using water colour paints and the brief to use at least 4, bright and differing colours, that they had mixed themselves. The results were fabulous - check out the gallery with your child to spot theirs.

On Thursday we had a real treat as we experienced a Chi-Chi fit session which really got us up and moving about. Chi-Chi is a dance/exercise class to tunes from musicals and the world of Disney (amongst others). We had a tour of many from The Lion King to the Little Mermaid all with some very energetic moves which the children coped with brilliantly. It was wonderful to see them all engaged and active with huge smiles on their faces or the look of concentration trying to keep up!!! We had the moves for sure!! We also had a lesson in folding our uniform neatly to put it to one side whilst we did our exercise for the day - they can do it, test them at home!!

We have also been busily preparing for our Easter Assembly and continuing to expand our knowledge of adding and subtracting fractions, which has really got our brains working!!

Only one more week to go before some Easter fun. Don't forget to get your map to do the PFA Easter Egg hunt and joins us for the Easter fun activities in the hall on Good Friday.
