Shaping Bright Futures Together

Oak Class Week 2

It's week two already and everyone in Oak Class has settled in brilliantly. We have produced some excellent work in maths this week as we continue to learn about place value and we have met Kensuke in our book Kensuke's Kingdom. We are eagerly awaiting to find out how Michael and Kensuke's friendship develops. To develop our vocabulary, we have been studying some nautical terms and other new words from the text. We will be using them in our writing next week.

In PE on Monday Mrs Thornton and Mrs Cooke took the class to the community tennis courts to practice their skills for this current unit of work. They will be practicing their footwork, court awareness hand eye coordination. Maybe we will see some budding Grand Slam winners of the future!

Keeping to a tennis theme, we based our Mindful Monday session on US Open Champion Emma Raducanu's amazing achievements. We made connections to her winners journey with our theme of the week - resilience. The children talked about challenges that they will face this week in and out of school, and set a growth mindset target to try to achieve by Friday. Fingers crossed we all will have achieved it.

We have shown the most resilience this week in our handwriting sessions. This term we have started to use new handwriting style and are following a programme to develop the children's skills. You may have seen them practising their new skills at home. The new font is in a cursive style and will require the children to master joining all lower case letters. We have up to three handwriting sessions a week on the timetable and the children will be working towards earning a Pen Licence once they have proved their competency and show good control.

Reminder - next week we will have our first of 10 visits to the swimming baths, so get your kit sorted out this weekend: trunks/swimming costume, goggles and a towel.

Plus don't forget the 'Meet the Teacher' session with me on Thursday 23rd of September at 2.30 where I will explain the expectations and routines for Oak Class.
