Willow - Week 5

We have had a very busy week preparing for Harvest Festival on Friday.

Our main focus for this week in English has been learning how to write a setting description using prepositions and adverbial phrases. We have been using vocabulary from the text and words from the Year 3 and 4 spellings list to improve our writing.

Our focus for maths this week has been using column addition and partitioning to add three digit numbers. The children are improving their speed and accuracy when using these methods. We have also been practising our number bonds to 100. It would be very useful to practise these at home as well as timetables!

In our Art lessons this week, the children learnt how to draw a dragon eye and shade the scales to add definition using pencil crayons. Next week we will use our new pencil shading techniques to sketch an eye and shade it using different grades of pencil. We have added some photos to share the children’s incredible artwork.

In our topic lessons, the children have looked at examples of a Saxon and Viking accounts of an event and have found the reasons for the Vikings “bad reputation.” We have also been learning about Iceland and we will plan to produce a tourist video using the green screen. We look forward to sharing these on the school website very soon!
