Look What I Found At The Seaside

This is a wonderful non-fiction book about things that we see at the seaside.  It has generated a lot of discussion about our own personal experiences of visiting the beach. We have used the pages to play eye spy, with children guessing what I am looking at with an initial sound clue.

On Wednesday, Mrs Fisher and her mother came to school and showed us a number of stringed instruments.  The children were absolutely mesmerized by what they saw and heard.  It inspired us to get the guitar and other instruments out, to make music.

Following on our seaside theme, our role play area has changed into an ice cream shop, and on Thursday, we made and ate our own real ice cream.  We have looked closely at fossils, shells, a starfish and a seahorse.  In Maths, we have looked at balance, and measuring the weight of different shells.  We have also been writing postcards from our imaginary holiday destinations and looking at them on the map.

Our 30 Days Wild has led us to think about our senses and we have been using these to explore the world around us. We have investigated different herbs, made our own leaf perfume, been on a sound walk, hugged trees and done a bark rubbing.  We finished the week making a rainbow of colours, using leaves and petals.
