Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Hawthorn wb 10th July

We are still working hard in Hawthorn class!

This week, in English, we have been continuing with our work on seaside poetry.  The children have been reading and learning different poems.  They read a poem where the sea was like a raging monster and so they used their imaginations to draw what their "monster sea" was like.  There were some super ideas, complete with towering waves and red eyes!

In maths, the year 1 children have been continuing to learn about numbers from 50 to 100 and have been partitioning them into tens and ones.  The year 2 children have been using this knowledge to try formal column addition.

In Topic, we used aerial photos to spot different physical and human geographical features such as mountains and rivers as well as piers and lighthouses.  The children were fascinated!

FInally, in Science we have been completing our topic on plants. We discussed where we thought plants could or couldn't grow.  We went out into the school grounds to see if we could find unusual places where plants grow.  It turned out that they could grow in many places!
