Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Hawthorn wb 1st May

This week we have been building up our knowledge about the King and his Coronation prior to our fabulous celebrations today. We've even found out about some of the Royal Residences in all four countries of the United Kingdom, which has linked really well with our topic about castles. Did you know that Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest castle in the world that is still inhabited or that Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms including 78 bathrooms?
In English, the children have been preparing to write their own poems in the style of 'Tell me a Dragon'. We've brainstormed adjectives and had a play around with word order to create interesting noun phrases. Next week, we'll get to see the results of all their hard work and creativity.
In maths, Year 1s have taken a look at splitting an amount into equal parts by grouping and sharing. Year 2s continue their work on fractions, starting with thirds and moving on to finding the whole.
In Science, we have been looking at changes as we grow up.  We carried out a comparative investigation to see whether we get faster as we get older.  The children ran around the track and were timed.  We will be looking at the results next week to see whether the Year 2 children were faster than the Year 1 children.
Finally, the children have been making their own crown collages to celebrate the coronation.  They added lots of symbols which represent the United Kingdom.
Have another enjoyable long weekend and enjoy the coronation!
