Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Holly Class W/B 4th September 2023

A big welcome to Holly Class from Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt! It has been so exciting to see some new and some returning faces this week!

It has been our priority this week to settle everyone in and spend time getting to know all of our wonderful pupils. Year 1 have loved showing the new reception children around the classroom and all of the lovely toys in Holly class. Our story this week has been 'Harry and his bucket full of dinosaurs go to school' which was a lovely story that the children could relate to.

Reception have spent time exploring different areas of the classroom, with the home corner and construction areas being particularly popular! They also enjoyed exploring the outdoor area and the beautiful sunshine. It has been lovely to see them playing with one another and starting to build those important first relationships. They have also painted their own self portrait, using the mirrors to carefully observe their eye colour, hair colour, as well as how many eyes and ears they have!

In English, Year 1 came up with lots of different adjectives (describing words) to describe the dinosaurs in our book. They even had a go at writing some of these independently! They have also started our topic on recounts and have sequenced and acted out their own morning routines.

In Maths, Year 1 have practically sorted objects based on different attributes, such as colour, shape and size. They have also counted objects and movements up to 10, understanding that anything can be counted.

We have all felt very proud of Holly class this week! Reception have settled in really nicely and have worked very hard to learn all of the new faces and routines. Year 1 have been very responsible and set a great example of how to behave in school, as well as helping and welcoming all of the new children.

We are very excited to see everyone for another week of fun next week!
