Shaping Bright Futures Together

23 Holly Class W/B 3rd July 2023

It has been very busy in Holly class this week! Our book of the week was ‘Clean Up’ and this sparked some lovely conversations about the different ways we can look after and protect our world. As a class we have learnt all about our climate and how different climates are around the world, as well as looking at the different seasons and identifying the changes that happen during summer!

In phonics this week Reception have recapped the phonemes oa and oo as well as some new tricky words. Year 1 have continued to practice suffixes and prefixes, as well as using these within sentences.

In maths this week, Reception have deepened their understanding of numbers to 10 by identifying numbers that are ‘5 and a bit’ and how to represent these on the rekenreks. Year 1 have practiced the concepts before and after, as well as the days of the week and months of the year.

In literacy this week the children have listened to the story ‘Clean Up’ and structured an explanation for why Rocket was upset and what everyone did to help him. They have also learnt about the words first, then, next, after, finally and used these to sequence pictures. Year 1 have written sentences using these connectives. Year 1 have also compared explanation texts and talked about what they liked and disliked about them.

This week it was the much-anticipated Sports Day! All of Holly behaved excellently and did an amazing job in all of their events. They were so excited about taking home all of their stickers. A massive well done to Ruby and Emerald who won joint first place this year!

See you all next week!  Miss Palmer and Miss Hunt
